With only five 6th graders on the last regular season double-heather and facing the #1 worst referee experience to date, they secure top seed in the Oct. 25th Playoff run for the Chip!
With a target on their back and only five 6th grade players available, the YB ladies stepped into the gym knowing the challenge ahead would test not only their skill but their heart. Facing a well-prepared and talented CBC team that approached the game as if it was the championship, these girls didn’t flinch—they embraced the moment. From the opening tip, they played with grit, focus, and intensity, refusing to let fatigue or pressure dictate the outcome. Every possession mattered, and they executed with discipline, made smart decisions, and communicated like veterans.
#0 Elle who was tasked with shutting down their main guard with tough and speedy 1:1 defense delivered on the assignment and put CBC out of their game on offense. #10 Linnea delivered on the boards and orchestrating the offense with unselfish playing that enable easy buckets for the whole team.
Their conditioning was remarkable ( #6 Emery played 80 minutes on back to back games!), their will unbreakable. Despite relying on quick breaks with the help of 5th graders for a breather (Gigi and Legend), they hustled for every loose ball, sprinted back on defense, and attacked the basket with purpose. What stood out most was their composure—they never panicked, never pointed fingers, and played with the confidence of a group that trusts one another completely. It was a statement performance that showcased their competitive spirit, unity, and maturity beyond their years. Against the odds, they not only competed—they controlled the game and handled business beating CBC for the second time in a one week's span in a low scoring game of 29 x 24

Then came the second game against a well coached, tall, and physical team in the Lady Blackhawks. What was supposed to be a fun and competitive youth basketball game turned into a night of frustration thanks to one referee who seemed determined to make himself the center of attention. With a whale-sized ego and a mission to control every moment, he went on an unprecedented power trip that soured the experience for everyone in the gym—players, coaches, parents, and even his fellow official. His manufactured calls, extremely biased whistles, and constant attempts to provoke reactions made it painfully clear that his focus wasn’t on the game or the athletes, but on feeding his own authority. (you be the judge by watching a compilation of mediocre refereeing in the 2min video below). The young ladies who had trained hard for this matchup deserved the spotlight, but instead, they were forced to play through chaos and confusion. The absurdity peaked with three unnecessary technical fouls, one of which was called on Coach Cass simply for calmly and quietly sitting on the floor after being forced to sit down by the aforementioned "referee". When the final buzzer finally sounded, it wasn’t celebration that filled the gym—it was pure relief that the spectacle was over. The YB Ladies walked away with another solid victory of 35 x 20.
Up next is the championship round on Oct. 25th. The YBGP'32 squad (8-0 in regular season play) is a strong contender to win it all. If they show up prepared, focused on the assignments, and ready to run, things are looking good for them! We invite everyone to come cheer them on their quest to a perfect 2025 Fall League.
At the final huddle, coach Cass stressed the importance of preparation, focus, and not letting distractions of any kind - even a clown official - get on the way of playing YB G-Power basketball.
