YB G-Power 2032: Dominance starts on defense: JPS Fall League

Updated: Oct 7

Led by a tremendous shooting performance from #10 Linnea and Defense lock up by #6 Emery & #0 Elle

The girls squad continues their dominant run, securing their sixth straight victory in the JPS Fall League and showing just how far they’ve already come this early in the season. From the opening tip versus a well coached and talented Colorado Basketball Club (CBC) squad, it was clear that this team is starting to click on every level, playing not just alongside one another, but truly with and for each other. The ball moved beautifully all game long, as players consistently passed up an okay look to find a wide-open teammate for a better one, making the offense flow smoothly and keeping the defense on its heels. Their pick-and-roll attack was nearly unstoppable, with guards reading the floor and posts finishing strong or finding shooters who were ready to knock down shots. Shot selection showed major growth, and the efficiency on the offensive end was a key difference-maker.

Defensively, this team has reached another gear. Communication was sharp, rotations were on time, and the hustle plays—diving for loose balls, tipping passes, and fighting for position—were relentless. This enabled them to have a 30 point lead the half time mark. Opponents struggled to find good looks, and when they did, the rebounding effort from all five players quickly shut the door. Guards crashed the boards just as hard as the forwards, #0 Elle was a monster on defense grabbing board with the bigs without any issues. Her active hands played a huge role on the teams success on the full court press on the first half. YBGP'33 combo guard #31 Lila delivered some solid minutes dishing the ball on the pick and roll and draining a couple longe range 3pt bombs. Well, despite the 45 X 36 win, the coach was not pleased with the second half effort. The squad gave up a huge portion of their lead due to a lack of communication on defensive transition with runners from CBC scoring way too many easy layups on the fast break. He let the girls know about it not being an acceptable response. Celebrating too soon has consequences, and we were fortunate that we walked away with the win. "Let's learn from it" he said.

The ladies took the message to heart. On their second showdown versus a solid GRIT GIVE team they went to work!! Led by the strong shooting performance from #10 Linnea, who really set the tone offensively. She shot the ball very well from the mid range and around the basket, ran the fast break unselfishly, and crashed the boards like a monster. The dominance of #6 Emery also contributed to the strong 42 X 16 win. But this time was on the defensive side. The opponent was having a very difficult time getting anything to go down inside the paint over or around her. Left with only fast break options to get their points. #25 guard Eliza found her groove and the sunk a few mid range and long range shots. #8 Trinity also had a solid on ball defense performance which created frustration and mistakes to the GRIT team, while #33 Aspyn contributed with strong rebounding and smart decision making on the break.

This win streak is no accident—it’s a result of unselfish play, trust, and relentless effort. The girls are learning to celebrate each other’s successes, lift each other up, and commit to a culture where every possession matters. Six wins in a row is impressive, but the way they’re doing it—together, with discipline and heart—is what makes this run truly special. If they keep competing at this level, the rest of the season promises to be just as exciting.

At the postgame talk, coach Cass really emphasized the importance of focus through the whole game and not let score or officials change or diminish our level of play. "we must play all the way through the end of each game as if we were on the first quarter!"
